Les zones géographiques sont codées afin d'accélerer la recherche de données ou d'informations. Ce codage est utilisé par le serveur SISMER ainsi que lors d'échanges internationaux.
La taille de ces carreaux est de 10° x 10°
Sur certains secteurs, une plus grande précision étant nécessaire, des zonages plus fins ont été créés :

  • des quadrants (5° x 5°)
  • deux tailles de sous-quadrant (2.5° x 2.5°) et (1° x 1°)
