The CADISAR cruise aimed to characterize the impact of the Mediterranean water vein on the facies and the sediment distribution as well as on the sedimentary bodies in the Gulf of Cadiz during the Quaternary. Use of the EM300 sounder was to provide a picture of the general functioning of the area under the influence of strong currents from the Mediterranean Outflow Water (MOW), the fine-scale distribution of the facies and sedimentary bodies, and the surface expression of tectonic control on sedimentation. Large-scale sedimentary forms were to be characterized using the SAR sonar. Core samples were to provide a survey of the sediment facies and their temporal evolution. This would make it possible to evaluate how the MOW has changed with time and, possibly, the role of the climate in those changes. Sparker seismics aimed at obtaining surveys of the sedimentary constructions at the regional scale and determining their temporal evolution as well as identifying the tectonic control on sedimentation (diapirism). Pasisar sparker seismics provided high-quality profiles within the Guadalquivir ridge contourite channel at the continental shelf-slope junction with an E-W and a N-S profile, both linked to a core shaft drilled by oil companies. This cruise was related to the URM 17 project.
